Our Story

The Seed Community Church was an idea that was planted in a group of local families who were meeting together for Bible studies in 2017. In 2018, a connection was made with Pastor Steve Walters and Hillside Community Church in Vermillion (see button below). Steve had been exploring the local area and praying about the possibility of planting a church here. At the same time, Christiana Ostrem was approached about starting a coffee shop in a historic building downtown. When Steve and Christiana met and began dreaming of what could happen if they combined their visions, God started opening doors and providing the resources needed to move forward with The Seed.

The coffee shop opened in the spring of 2020 and has become an incredible gathering place for the local community. The food and drinks are excellent, but the hospitality and spirit of the business are life-giving to its patrons. The Seed has also become home to many Bible studies, worship nights, and other events to bring our community together.

As the core team has continued to meet and pray together, making plans to start a new church in Centerville, God has continued to provide answers and details. Now we are excited to see our vision become a reality as we meet together on a weekly basis.

The Seed Community Church started as a satellite location of Hillside, watching video sermons from Pastor Robbie Severson. As of March 2022, God has graciously provided a local pastor to lead our congregation and serve the local Centerville area. Pastor Jimmy Sourile, his wife Ariana, and their children, Chloe and Titus, are excited to join us in fellowship and ministry. We are excited to learn from his teaching on Sundays and to see how God wants to continue to grow The Seed community!

We Believe…

In God, who eternally exists as one God in three persons. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
In Jesus, who is fully God and fully man.
In the Holy Spirit, who lives within all believers to teach, empower and guide.
In the forgiveness of sins, purchased once and for all by Jesus’ death on the cross.
In new life today and forever, assured by Jesus’ bodily resurrection from the dead for all who wholeheartedly trust in His death and resurrection.
In the return of Jesus to usher in the Kingdom of God in all its fullness.
In the Bible as the trustworthy and true communication from God.

Christian Missionary Alliance

In 1887, A.B. Simpson started the missionary movement that became known as the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA).  Today the C&MA supports 800 missionaries in 58 nations and partners with churches in 81 countries and territories.

C&MA missionaries are financed through the Great Commission Fund (GCF).  Attendees at The Seed Community Church can designate gifts to the GCF, which enables missionaries to reach lost people for Christ, helps them to train national leaders, and provides medical help to the hurting and sick around the world along with helping start new C&MA churches in the US.
